Tell us about your hometown, family and hobbies.
I have two younger brothers who live with my mom, dad, and I. My hobbies are hockey, baseball, cycling, and almost all sports. My favourite time of the summer is being able to watch the Tour de France, which is a cycling race all across France.
How did you originally begin playing hockey (what age as well) and what is your favorite memory from when you were younger?
I began playing hockey when I was 4 years old. I played in Wabamun till I was 11. My favorite memory was when we went to Oyen for Provincials. We were a team with only two lines but we went on a roll and made it to the semi-finals.
Who is your favorite NHL player and who do you model your game after? Why?
My favorite NHL player, and who I model my game after, is Jonathan Toews. He is determined to do whatever is needed for his team to succeed. He prides himself in leading by example and plays a heads-up style of hockey. He gets his teammates involved through his playmaking, which is sharing the puck but also knowing when to hold on to it. Toews is also an outstanding person off the ice, not wanting to be bigger than the game and thinking he is better off by himself. These are all reasons why I model my game after him. I strive to implement these aspects into my hockey career.
What team did you play for? What was your favorite part from the season?
I played for the U18 AAA Rangers out of Fort Saskatchewan. My favorite part was when we went to the local field and played some football.
What are your top goals as a student athlete? Why are they your top goals?
My top goals as a student athlete are: achieving the honour roll, balancing hockey, school, and social life, finding ways to train, and working towards playing hockey at a post-secondary institution.
How important is school from your perspective? Why is it that way?
School is very important from my perspective because it opens doors and helps pave the way for my future. If something like an injury comes up and my hockey career must come to an end earlier than expected, then having a high education will help me succeed by getting a great job opportunity. School also helps open doors because if my grades are not good then there are places where I can not go for hockey or schooling. So, if my grades are up then I will have choices.
What would it mean to you to play at the NCAA or Pro level?
It would mean everything because playing at that level means I put in the effort and had assistance and support from many people. Playing at that level would mean that I would be gearing up for life with, or after, hockey which is what the end goal is, whether that be getting a well paying job or playing hockey as my career.
What separates you as a player or person? How do you continue to get better?
What separates me as a player is my work ethic and heads up style of play. I am willing to do whatever it takes to help my team succeed whether that be, blocking a shot, playing a new position, or doing my best to excel in a new role. I pride myself on always being in a position which leads to helping my teammates succeed because they know where I will be. I also demonstrate my heads up style of play by disrupting the puck and making plays without the puck. What separates me as a person is how generous and determined I am. I enjoy helping others whether that be through community service or through my teammates. I am determined, in my mind that means I know that sacrifices will need to be made and I am always ready to solve problems/issues that will arise in order to get to the next level. I am determined to push through the problems and issues that occur as long as I am determined to make the sacrifices that are needed.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I am looking to have a positive impact in the community, with the team I am playing for, and success for my future. It is important that when I am older I can look back and know there is at least one person in the community where I played that remembers me for something positive I did to help. When I am done playing hockey, I will want to give back by coaching and working with young kids. I will have an impact on the team I’m playing for by encouraging and supporting my teammates. Finally, I will have an impact on my success for my future by being determined and persevering. That way I can gain knowledge through post-secondary education or experience, which will help me succeed after I am done playing hockey.
One fun fact about yourself.
I have double-jointed elbows.
