Tell us about your hometown, family and hobbies.
I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada, with my Mom, Dad and one older sister. Other than golf, I play hockey as a goalie in the winter and play golf, volleyball and, badminton for my school. I also enjoy video editing and spikeball.
How did you originally begin playing golf (what age as well) and what is your favorite memory from when you were younger?
I have been playing golf my whole life, but started getting competitive about 5 years ago. My favorite memory is being in a club championship a couple years ago and being just out of contention, on a par 5 with 200 yards in to the green on my second shot. Hitting my 3 wood and watching it fly on a rope and lip out for albatross. The tap in eagle was my first eagle ever.
Who is your favorite PGA player and who do you model your game after? Why?
My favorite golf pro is Rory McIlroy and he is also who I model my game around. This is because he is a man of smaller stature, who hits the ball far and plays some of the best golf in the world. I, also having a slightly smaller stature, found inspiration from him since I was 11 years old.
What team do/did you play for? What was your favorite part from the season?
I play for two teams, the Edmonton Petroleum Golf and Country Club Junior Interclub team and the St. Francis Xavier High School Golf Team, being the captain last year. I have too many memories playing for these teams. One I remember is when I was the only one still in contention for the City Championship on my school team, needing a birdie on the last hole to move on. A 20-foot putt with my whole team watching, I sank the putt to move on to the Championship. Like you would see at NCAA Team Championships where the player sinks a clutch putt to win, my whole team came and celebrated with me.
What are your top goals as a student athlete? Why are they your top goals?
For golf, my goal is to place top 5 in multiple tournaments, giving myself contention in the tournaments. This is important to me because I know I play good golf and I want to prove my abilities. The other golf goal is to gain distance and swing speed. Currently I have approximately a 105mph club head speed and want to work towards 110 or 115, which will allow me to use that distance as a weapon.
How important is school from your perspective? Why is it that way?
School is massive for me. I feel like school opens almost every opportunity to be successful in life. This is because I feel like education gives you job opportunities and important experiences, as well as life lessons so that when you come out of school, you can become successful and live your dream life.
What would it mean to you to play at the NCAA level?
It would mean the absolute world to me. The chance to play at the NCAA level would allow me continue playing high level competitive golf and get an unbelievable education, which I can use for the rest of my life. Plus it allows me to golf longer each year then here in Edmonton.
What separates you as a player or person? How do you continue to get better?
What separates me from others is my mental fortitude. I have worked on my mental game since I was a competitive hockey goalie. My ability to reset after a mistake is critical and I’m able to make sure I take the mistake back with a really good follow up. I continue to get better by always being self aware of my mental and physical game. Always reflecting on myself and finding new ways to improve every aspect of my game. The other way I separate myself is through my ability of not being afraid to make changes. Some people when they find something they like, will not change it because they are scared of losing progress, but I believe that my golf game can always constantly improve and am willing lose a little to gain more.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I am looking to bring tournament wins and NCAA titles back to the school I play for. I am looking to improve myself as well as helping the others on our team get better, while making sure that I become really good friends with the entire team.
One fun fact about yourself.
I have two massive dogs, both Cane Corsos, that weigh about 135 Ibs. Another fun fact is that I have played at the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Arena.
